PROFILE OF DR OKECHUKWU OBISIKE NDU, BPharm, MPharm, PhD
Dr Okechukwu Obisike Ndu obtained a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Nigeria in 1995. Thereafter, he interned at the University’s faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences as part of his pre-registration training in academic pharmacy practice, during which he understudied different aspects of pharmaceutical research. In 1999, he was employed into the same University as a graduate assistant in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, after having completed the mandatory national youth service (NYSC) for young Nigerian graduates. Shortly afterwards, he commenced a Master of Pharmacy programme in Cardiovascular Pharmacology with a research focus on the blood pressure-lowering activities of a methanol petal extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn, which was successfully completed in 2002. He was subsequently converted into the lectureship cadre in the same year, and rose steadily to a senior lectureship position in 2008. After serving 2 years as Acting Head of department, he proceeded to Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK, for a PhD in Pharmacovigilance of Complementary & Alternative Medicines (CAMs), which was successfully completed in July 2015. Since his return, he has been promoting research in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance, especially in the context of CAM. He is actively involved in teaching and research supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as various forms of public service.
